The Chhetris: Richard and Suman, Joel, Joash
Richard and Suman Chhetri are missionaries with Awana, the international children's organization. They look after West Bengal, Sikkim, and Manipur, three states in the country of India, and began work in 2002. They were introduced to Scenic Park Bible Church by Jacob Buller in 2008.
Richard was born in a Hindu family. He became a Christian after his father died and his mother, unable to pay for the expenses of local schooling, was able to send him to a Christian boarding school for orphans. After finishing high school there, he went on to study theology. While he was still in Bible college, he acknowledged a call of God that he serve Him. After his graduation in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in theology, Richard worked in New Delhi among the people living in the slums.
Richard and Suman were married in October 2000. In August 2002, they left Delhi and now live in Siliguri. Their son Joel was born in 2004 and their son Joash was born in 2012. Richard enjoys teaching and preaching, and Suman is gifted in singing and counseling. They find that their mission field is always a challenge and a place of opportunity.
Please pray for upcoming training events: Vacation Bible Class and Children Adventure Camp. It is their goal to train one thousand youths in Bible study and practical ministry activities. They would like to reach three thousand children with the Gospel and bring salvation to their parents. They are planning to build a house this year end, and it is a great concern and need for them. They are thankful to God for giving them a car for family and ministry use.
