His formal preparation for ministry includes three years at Arctic Bible Institute in Palmer, where he graduated with honors in 1980, and one year of study at Biola University.
Lon’s call to ministry was not a one-time event. His parents, who were missionaries with Arctic Missions, were faithful to keep him exposed to good teaching from God’s Word and to missionaries and pastors who had surrendered their hearts to God. When he was about thirteen, Lon made himself available to God to go where He chose, to do what He said to do, and to say what He wanted said. Lon has renewed this commitment at various times, and after six years of Navy service, including more than three years in Vietnam, he and his wife moved to Alaska so he could attend Bible school. After graduation, Lon served a one-year pastoral internship at Naknek Bible Church and was the pastor at Lake Clark Bible Church.
Lon and Kristy have three children and a number of grandchildren. Lon is very much a family man, and thoroughly enjoys time spent babysitting and working with his grandkids. He loves to read, shoot firearms, hike, bike ride, and swim. He does wood working, and sings and plays several musical instruments.
