The Blairs: Brian and Laurie,
Gabrielle, Elliott, Simeon, Michaela
Brian and Laurie Blair serve with radio station KCAM in Glennallen, Alaska and have been supported by Scenic Park Bible Church (SPBC) since early 2011.
Before coming to Alaska, Brian worked for eighteen years for a network of Christian radio stations operated by Cedarville University in Ohio. He and Laurie became burdened for sharing the gospel of Christ via radio in rural Alaska after Bob Eldridge, the founder of Voice for Christ Ministries (VFCM), made several visits to Cedarville to recruit students. The Blair family made a one-month visit to VFCM in Alaska in 1999, and then wanted to be a part of that ministry.
A member of SPBC served on the VFCM Board of Directors when the Blairs first arrived in Nenana in 2003, and the Blairs worked for VFCM for twelve and a half years until May 2016. Brian was station manager for KIAM AM and KIAM FM. KIAM-FM is re-broadcast in seventeen villages throughout Alaska via low-power FM transmitters. Brian maintained the broadcast operations for these stations, and hosted music programs. He was one of the song leaders and played piano at the Nenana Community Church.
Brian and Laurie met at Cedarville University and are now both CU graduates. They were married in July of 1988, and have four children: Gabrielle (1991), Elliot (1994), Simeon (1997), and Michaela (2003).
Brian has served a member of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) State Affiliate's Board of Directors since 2009. In October 2016, Brian was elected as First Vice President. After a four-day training session in Baltimore, Brian has been involved in bringing a Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning (BELL) two-week program to Alaska for blind children to learn Braille, cane travel, and other independent living skills in a fun learning setting with blind role models, with the program beginning in the summer of 2017.
