The Faires: Mark and Nicola, Winston, Evelyn
Mark and Nicola Faires serve with SEND North, which is based in Anchorage, Alaska. Mark and Nicola became acquainted with SPBC in 2011 through Bill Schwaab because of membership in the Christian Pilots Association.
Following in the footsteps of his parents, missionaries to Taiwan, Mark had an early interest in also becoming a missionary. During junior high school, Mark felt God’s specific call to be a missionary pilot. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Flight Science from LeTourneau University. He moved to Alaska in 2006 and has been involved in a number of ministries, including Kingdom Air Corps, Tanalian Bible Camp, and Christian Pilots Association.
Nicola was born into a Christian family and accepted Christ as Savior at a young age. She graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a degree in nursing and served one term with the US Air Force at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. She spent time studying abroad in Uganda and has served the Lord in mission trips to Mexico and Argentina. She felt the call to village missions shortly after arriving to Alaska, and joined Mark in marriage and ministry in 2012. They have two children, Winston (2014) and Evelyn (2015).
Mark and Nicola’s role is to support fellow SEND personnel in Alaska’s interior. They serve in the Fairbanks area and wear many hats. They are part of the logistics and support team, providing guest housing and expediting, as well as being part of the aviation department through flight and maintenance.
Fairbanks is the most northern city on Alaska’s main road system, making it the most central location for supporting the villages in the interior. Fairbanks is considered by many to be Alaska’s largest “village” as it is well-connected with the outlying villages. Pray for Mark and Nicola as they serve missionaries ministering in the villages. Aside from the dangers of aviation in Alaska, they also face a very real spiritual battle as they help to spread the gospel to remote Alaska.
